Tomato Adaptation Project

About

The Tomato Adaptation Project is a collaborative, grassroots pilot project led by a group of seed librarians / stewards across the Lower Mainland. As part of a three-year pilot, we are growing two primary varieties. At the end of the growing season, we will harvest seeds from the tomatoes. The resulting seeds are pooled: some will be redistributed to participants' seed libraries (or even community use), and the remainder will be held for growing in future years of the pilot.

Why

Our goal is to grow out and adapt select tomato varieties for the Pacific Northwest and BC climate with the hope that they will be better attuned to our changing climate and unpredictable conditions. Our saved seeds will also help bolster supply for local community-based seed libraries.
